Hi Sisters!
There’s a lot to let you all know about this week, so this email ended up being rather Super Sized!
(I also discovered how make text in the body of a paragraph a clickable link, so you’ll see plenty of those this week)
Let’s get down to business and hope you can hang with me ‘til the end:
Church Services
Here’s the latest update on Church Services:
Sacrament Meeting and all Auxiliary classes will resume in-person this coming Sunday, along with a way for those at home to participate via video. Each organization may send out any additional, specific information about how that is going to work to their respective participants (if necessary).
In-person classes will take place in rooms that allow for distancing, cleaning measures will be taken before and after every meeting, and masks are still required. Links for all of these meetings will be sent out later this week.
- New Time Schedule:
- 1:00-2:00 Sacrament Meeting
- (10 mins for cleaning)
- 2:10-2:45 Classes
- Monthly Class Schedule
- 1st and 3rd Sundays- Sunday School for Adults and Youth
- 2nd and 4th Sundays- Elders Quorum/ Relief Society/ Young Men/Young Women
- All Sundays- Primary (no nursery yet)
- 5th Sundays- TBD
We are all still trying to work out the logistics of all of this, so we appreciate your patience with any issues we may face this coming Sunday with coordinating classes and with using technology. Hopefully we can get into a good rhythm relatively quickly!
This Sunday (3/14) is the second Sunday, so we will be having Relief Society again this coming week. We’ll be discussing Elder Soares’ talk “Seek Christ in Every Thought” from Oct. 2020.
Interfaith Prayer Devotional
The Interfaith Council of Elk Grove is holding a zoom Prayer Devotional this Friday, March 12th from 12:30-1:00. People of all faiths have been invited to join. See attached flyer for additional information.
Single Adult Devotional (All ages)
The North America West Area of the Church is hosting a Single Adult Devotional this Sunday, March 14th at 7:00pm for single adults of all ages (not just young single adults). Sister Sheri Dew and Elder Mark Bragg will be the speakers. The devotional is only for the North America West area of the church and links may not be accessible for delayed viewing. If you want to hear them speak, find it at this link at 7:00!
Temple Cleaning Assignment- Volunteers needed!
Sheldon Ward has been given an assignment to clean the temple on Monday March 29th from 8am-12pm. If you’re anxious to be back in the temple, here’s a great opportunity! Cleaning separately and social distancing will be in place.
We need about 15 volunteers total, not just limited to Relief Society. If you and your spouse would both like to come, you are more than welcome! Volunteers will need a current temple recommend and can dress in casual attire. If you are interested, please let the Relief Society Presidency know this Sunday (if you’ll be attending meetings), or feel free to reply to this email so that we get an accurate count. Thank you!
Prepare for General Conference!
We’ve got General Conference coming up in just a few weeks. Hard to believe it’s that time already- feels like an eternity and yesterday all at the same time!
Below are a couple of ideas you might want to consider as we start to prepare our hearts for the messages we’ll be receiving:
- In a recent church newsroom article, one recommendation was to prepare for General Conference by learning more about General Authorities and General Officers. In case you’re interested here are links to learn just a little more about our General Relief Society Presidency:
- In addition, the Elk Grove Stake Relief Society created a calendar with simple ideas you could consider doing if you feel like they would help you get in the spirit of General Conference (see attached flyer). Similar to the principles upon which Come Follow Me is built, these ideas are, “not meant to replace or compete with other good things you are doing. Follow the Spirit’s guidance to determine how to approach your own your own study of the word of God” (Come Follow Me, Individuals and Families Manual).
Come Follow Me
This week’s Come Follow me lesson covers Doctrine and Covenants 23–26.
In Section 24, verse 8 the Lord says, “Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days.
The Lord is acutely aware of not only the kinds of trials we face but how many we face. He knows there are times when we will be faced with many all at once, and he knows that sometimes the 'many' will be more spread out. Regardless, He is with us in all of the 'many'. If we lean on Him, He will help us develop the patience to endure the trials that this life brings.
For any who might want to study a little more about patience, the Come Follow Me lesson this week includes a link to Elder Uchtdorf’s talk in May 2010, “Continue in Patience”, or there was also a wonderful talk given by Elder Jaggi of the Seventy this past October conference called “Let Patience Have Her Perfect Work, and Count it all Joy!”
